Microsoft has closed million botnet
Microsoft has announced the closure of one of the largest botnets, built on a million computers infected by viruses. This is stated in the official blog of Microsoft TechNet.
Network of computers, hidden under the code name Rustock, daily engaged in sending billions of spam messages. This network, including distributed advertising various medications, as well as reports of the winning lottery.
On the network Rustock company Microsoft has learned from information obtained during an operation to close another botnet Waledac. For disabling this botnet specialists, primarily broken connection between computers, included within the network and servers, which provides a direct control of the botnet.
In order to achieve these results, the company sent an appeal to the District Court of Washington, and then made decisions about how to disable the issuance of these servers were located in seven cities across the country, from the Internet. Then the servers were disconnected from the global network by the American Service of federal marshals, and already on March 17 he completely stopped working botnet.
Against botnet developers were sent to the lawsuits. This was done despite the fact that it is still not established their identities.
As specified by the representatives of Microsoft, operations against the botnet, has been named «b107». Direct part in it took the staff of the Microsoft anti-cyber crime (Digital Crimes Unit, DCU), as well as specialists of a number of other divisions of the corporation.
